One of the most common questions I am asked in my workshops is when should you call a meeting and when should you Blitz?
There is no hard and fast rule but here is my rule of thumb.
If you are an emerging leader ask yourself what is the purpose of the group session?
If you use words such as:
– To discuss, share, explore, present, analyse, understand, prioritise, inform, address, expand, review etc.
And if there is no urgency.
Then have a formal meeting.
However, if you use the following words to describe the purpose of your group or team session:
– To create, generate, brainstorm, solve, decide etc.
And there is some urgency about getting to a result or solving a problem:
Then try Blitzing.
Both meetings and Blitz sessions complement each other and the one you use depends on the challenge you and your group & team are facing.
In fact, you can run an Ideas Blitz in a longer meeting.
If you have a problem try calling a Blitz there and then rather rather than calling another hour long meeting.
So if you are frustrated with the number and length of meetings then try running a Blitz.
If you have people all over the organisation or country you may want to try using our new Blitz Mobile App (iphone and ipad).
