I was running a creativity and innovation training session recently with a major brand and i asked the creative director about his creative process.
He said that he waited for inspiration to be generate ideas or solve problems.
I loved the honesty of his response but it did make me wonder about the applicability of this approach in a commercial setting.
Of you are an artist the notion of waiting for an aha moment probably makes some sense.
But in a business or organisation if you need to solve a problem or generate some fresh new ideas in a hurry that does not seem very practical.
After my Ideas Blitz session i then asked the same creative director about his approach.
He said and i quote,
‘You know you have changed my mind about creativity — I now believe it is possible to force creativity.’
Imagine the power if every individual and group could produce some creativity on demand.
This is what i have found and thousands of others have discovered with Ideas Blitz.
Now granted it might not be groundbreaking ideas but for the most part you can make progress.
You do not have to wait for the right mood, time, place or people.
You can actually Blitz right now.
In fact, i have never run an Ideas Blitz which didn’t lead to a new idea, perspective, thought or action.
The simple act of trying to formulate the challenge and trying to generate 9 ideas in 2 minutes gets you started.
What’s more i have found that after you have completed a Blitz ideas still flow for the next 24 hours.
Without sounding too dramatic — it’s like the ideas that have been trapped in my unconscious have been set free.
Try Blitzing by yourself or with a partner or small group — don’t wait.
It actually doesn’t matter on what you will start to build a daily creativity habit and muscle.
