Start with the individual!
I know it sounds counterintuitive but if you want your group or team to be more creative then start with the individual.
With Ideas Blitz for example, we start by having each person try and generate 9 ideas in 2 minutes.
The average response is 5 -7 ideas so even if we take the smaller number, in 2 minutes a group of say 4 people can generate 20 ideas or more in 2 minutes!
What’s more they have to think for themselves, the extroverts don’t dominate and there is no ‘groupthink‘.
By starting with each individual and working up to the bigger group it means that everyone is engaged and the energy levels soar because everyone is heard.
It also means that by starting with the individual you generate not only more ideas but they are more divergent in nature.
So the next team you are in a group or team start with the individual.
You may be surprised who really emerges with the most creative idea or solution.
