Imagine an innovation consultant – in real time

Imagine if you were a leader and you can call on an innovation consultant to help you develop some new strategic options in real time.

Imagine if you worked in customer service and wanted to solve a customer problem in real time.

Imagine also if you worked in advertising, PR, marketing, media, communication or market research and you needed some new ideas for a client in real time.

Is this possible?

Can an innovation or creativity or problem-solving consultant really exist in real time?

Well maybe.

After spending the past 10 days working in China I happened to call a client who i had helped launch an innovation program some 12-18 months ago.

I asked her how the program was going.

Unfortunately she said that the program was running out of puff.

This prompted me to run an Ideas Blitz on the following challenge (she was unaware that i was doing this):

In the challenge field on my ipad app i entered: How to reenergise an innovation program?

I came up with the following 9 ideas then developed each one and prioritised these:

1. Re-engage the CEO — Ask him what is one of his biggest problems then focus the innovation efforts there.

2. Ask the rest of the leadership team for help — ask them to get behind the program and indicate exactly where you need help.

3. Appeal to the self-interest of individuals within the organisation — Innovation should be positioned not as something extra but as a way to make your job easier or simple or better.

4. Nudge leadership behaviour — what about every leaders has an innovation goal as part of their KPI’s

5. Find the ‘out of the box’ thinkers and harness their creativity to boost the program.

6. Re-do the innovation survey — the aim here is to indicate what has changed since the first survey and how much is left to be done.

7. Relaunch an innovation day.

8. Involve the emerging leaders in the organisation — give them the challenge of re-igniting the program

9. Co-create with outside partners, suppliers or engineers — stimulate the innovation of the organisation from outside.

These are the range of ideas i generated using the new Ideas Blitz tool.

The client in this case the client had a problem and within 5 to 10 minutes an innovation consultant (i.e.me) responded in literally real time.

This is now possible using a tool such as Ideas Blitz.

Rapid response big, new ideas and solutions is now the new customer or client expectation in many industries.

We need new tools to cope.
