We need a new approach to innovation

Why?

Because many managers, leaders and business owners find the current approach too risky, time-consuming and frankly too exhausting.

The press is filled with so-called innovation experts calling for leaders to be more disruptive.

My sense is that many big, breakthrough ideas are often successful in retrospect.

In other-words it is only by looking backwards did managers realise that they had a big idea!

Perhaps disruption is also only a strategy for start-ups.

Those companies with nothing to lose.

But most managers and leaders are not in this boat.

We need a new approach.

One that is:

– easier and

– more inspiring

I call this approach small wins innovation.

The idea is to make a small difference to people’s lives — each and every day.

It requires a new process and tool kit.

A new mindset and a new set of innovative behaviours.

And did I mention a new style of leadership.

One that is more open, engaging and willing to challenge the status quo.
